According to the Center of Disease Control and Prevention, cardiovascular and strength exercises for seniors can also prevent bone loss, relieve arthritis pain, and boost immunity and heart health. It may even reduce the risk of falls by enhancing balance and coordination.

Staying motivated is not easy.  When you are fatigues or struggling with aches and pains, exercise is not on the agenda.  Below are some tips to overcome lack of motivation.

Make it Fun

  • Do a nature walk and take some pictures.  It will make you notice the beauty around.

  • Take your dog for a walk.

  • Go for a swim or ride your bike.

Make it Social

  • Walk in a group or with a partner.

  • Join a class. Check out your local senior center for what they offer.

Start gradually and build up intensity of activities

  • Begin with very light activity and focus on consistency of completing the activity

  • Making exercise a habit is much easier if it does not feel too burdensome to complete

         and when you have options.

Build into daily activity

  • When playing golf skip the cart and walk.

  • Park further so you can walk to your destination.

  • Take the stairs instead of the elevator.

Track your progress and celebrate your success

  • Use a wearable tracking device.  Simply knowing how many steps you take a day is a

great motivator for day to day activity.
