Learn about what in-home care best suits the needs of your loved one or yourself.

Hospital at Home is a great option for elderly who have an acute medical problem.  After a doctor’s assessment the patient receives quality care in the comfort of their own home.  A wide range of medical services can be done at home including nursing, medications, diagnostic test,  and monitoring.  Long term therapy patients can really  benefit from in-home physical, speech and occupational therapies.  According to Forbes, “The program has been especially effective for patients with chronic conditions such as pneumonia, heart failure, or lung disease.”

The cost of this model is cheaper than hospital stays and patients tend to be more comfortable.  Developments in technology have improved this model by making doctors and other health care professionals more accessible.

SNF at Home (skilled nursing facilities) is a much newer concept.  It is very similar to Hospital at Home, but it is aimed at receiving in-home rehab following a hip replacement or stroke.  Patients can receive in-home physical therapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, and wound care.  Even personal assistance is available by home health aides.

Continuing Care at Home is a model that moves assisted living care into people’s homes.  This has been a popular practice for a long time.  This is for elderly that don’t need a licensed medical provider, but still need assistance with daily living activities.  Caregivers can assist with meal preparation, house keeping, personal care, and companionship.  There are even special assistance caregivers that are qualified to care for Alzheimer’s, disabled, and cancer.

With the high rate of residents at nursing homes passing of Covid-19, opting for in-home health care is a great solution.  Chicagoland Home Health Provider spokes person says, “they have seen the demand for their in-home medical services have been on the rise since the covid-19 pandemic hit.  Home health agencies are already providing this type of care.  The best way to find this type of care is asking your doctor for a referral.  Or check your local listing for a local Home Health Care Provider agency.
